Al-Madina Printing & Publication Co.(MPP)
Al-Madina Printing & Publication Co.(MPP) Al-Madina Printing & Publication Co.(MPP) was established in the holy city “Al-Madina Al-Munawara”, almost seventy years ago, "on 8th April 1937" by the Hafiz brothers "Othman and Ali Hafiz", to print a weekly newspaper, using simple letterpress equipment. In the early sixties, of last Century, it moved to Jeddah. During the three decades that followed it went through a series of remarkable technological developments. Relying mainly on a Web Letterpress in the sixties, its first experience with Web Offset Presses started in the mid-seventies, marking its first step in its Journey of achievements. Soon after, and in the late seventies, came the significant turning point in its history when it moved its operations to a new modern building in Faisalia District, now a landmark referred to it in Jeddah as “ Al-Sharq Al-Awsat & Arab News Building ”. In this new building, up-to-date Coldset and Heatset web offset printing presses for the production of Daily Newspapers and Weekly Magazines were introduced. Four-Colour Sheet-fed offset Press for the printing of high quality Magazines Covers and Mailroom Equipment for the transport of Magazines signatures, from the Printing Press to the high capacity “Gathering & Saddle Stitching lines (equipped with stream feeders)”, as well as Modern Phototypesetting and Pre-press equipment were incorporated. With all these up-to-date equipment, MPP jumped ahead of all Newspaper and Magazine Printing Houses , in the Kingdom. Printing Sites in Riyadh and Dammam were established to print the daily newspapers simultaneously with Jeddah. This achievement was realized in the Eighties, of last Century; by the close cooperation between MPP and its sister company Saudi Research and Publishing Co. ‘SRPC’, the publisher of the newspapers printed at MPP. A very important station, in MPP’s long journey of achievements, then came in the Nineties of the last Century. The printing of School Books, Annual Calendars, and many other Commercial jobs were added to its traditional Newspaper and Magazines production activities. Newspaper production facilities (for Black &White) consisted then of Goss lines and up-to-date Heidelberg/Harris line. (At the same time its Riyadh Branch newspaper facilities (for B & W) was increased as well by the addition of an identical Heidelberg/Harris line). more...
